Biography

Colombian artist resident in the United Kingdom. Basically a figurative artist, the work that mostly represents him is of a surrealist nature with a strong expressionist character. Nurtured by the artist subconscious, drawings, etchings and paintings are instilled with dark humour and erotic puns, where grotesque figures and symbolic imagery portray a bleak, violent and unfair contemporary world.

Beauty alternates with ugliness, the sexual with the spiritual, the mystic with the infernal whilst reason sways on a pendulum.

Religious, mythological, political, anthropomorphic, circus and other characters of the human fauna parade in what sometimes reflects  a very particular Freak Show.

An evident influence of artists such as Goya, Hieronymus Bosch, Brueghel, Hogarth, Max Ersnt, Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon and Jose Luis Cuevas permeate his work specially his drawings and graphic work while his paintings show the marks of the Baroque not only Spanish but also that of Caravagio and Rembrandt.

Rodríguez insists in the presence and constant attraction that classical art as on him and his work. we are bound to find Gothic heads alternating with those of rams, saints and political martyrs: satire and pathos go hand in hand.
